The effect of the menstrual cycle on patterns of food intake

N=8. Calorie intake variations pre to post ovulation increased by 504 cal/day (round one) and 496 cal/day (round two). Women eat more post-ovulation. Foods consumed were predominantly carbohydrate-heavy and sweet. The authors found a shift in the hypoglycemic curve in the post-ovulation period indicating an alteration in carbohydrate metabolism to account for increaased sugar tolerance.
